Rwanda has finished third at this year’s Cecafa U-15 Challenge after beating Burundi 4-2 on penalties on Friday. The two teams played out a 1-all draw in normal time at the Asmara International Stadium, in Eritrea. Yves Rwasamanzi’s side went down early in the first half after Adelard Igiraneza put Burundi ahead in the 6th minute but fought back to equalise through Celestin Uwizeyimana in the 76th minute. “We are happy to win the bronze medal, and I am very proud of my boys. They showed a high level of football throughout the tournament, and I believe we deserved better but luck was not on our side in semi-finals.” In Wednesday’s semi-finals, Rwanda lost to Kenya 4-2 in penalty shootouts after a 1-1 draw in regular time. By press time Friday, the final showdown between Uganda and Kenya was yet to get underway. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
