The second term of the academic year for primary, secondary, and TVET schools is expected to kick off on Monday, January 10, according to a statement released by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA). Schools had officially closed on December 24, 2021, for the festive season holidays after the completion of the first term of the academic year 2021/2022. According to the statement, in order to respect Covid-19 guidelines, all students will take the buses provided for them from their respective picking points and not bus stations, with students from Kigali City to board their buses from the Kigali Stadium in Nyamirambo. Boarding school students will start going back to their respective schools starting Sunday, January 9, with students from Huye, Gisagara, Musanze, Nyamasheke, Rusizi, Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts heading back to school. On Monday, January 10, students whose schools are located in the Districts of Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Rulindo, Gakenke, Karongi, Rutsiro, Rwamagana, and Kayonza will go back to school. While, on Tuesday, January 11, students who study in Nyanza, Kamonyi, Gicumbi, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Kirehe and Ngoma, will head to their schools and on Wednesday students who study in the City of Kigali, and Muhanga, Ruhango, Ngororero, Burera, and Bugesera District will go to school as well. “All students are urged to respect all the Covid-19 guidelines in place while traveling back to school and also at school,” read the statement. It added; “All parents are urged to respect the traveling schedule, and should send their children before 9 am so they can be able to reach their respective schools early, and are urged to provide to them transport fees to school and the end of the term.
