The newly appointed High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Singapore, Ambassador Jean De Dieu Uwihanganye, on Thursday presented his letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Singapore, Her Excellency Halimah Yacob. The High Commissioner was accompanied to the ceremony by his spouse, Ms Pacifique Mukaseti as well as the Commercial Attache, Mr Lucas Murenzi. During the ceremony which was hosted at the office of the President called the ‘Istana’, Amb. Uwihanganye conveyed to President Yacob the warm greetings and best wishes from the President of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame and further expressed appreciation for the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and Rwanda. President Yacob lauded the existing economic and technical cooperation between the two countries which has led to the enhancement of bilateral trade, Foreign Direct Investments and tourism as well as technical and capacity building programs between Rwanda and Singapore. According to the statement released by the High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda in Singapore, Uwihanganye proposed to build on what has already been achieved. Amb. Uwihanganye stated that given the good bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Singapore, his team would build on the consolidated achievements to further achieve stronger economic relations as well as pursue the mutual exchange of best practices in technology and innovation, strategic planning and skills development that can contribute to the ongoing socio-economic transformation of Rwanda. On his part, President Yacob mentioned that people of Rwanda and Singapore share common values and aspirations and that Singapore was looking forward to continue cooperation with Rwanda especially through technical assistance and capacity Building as well as increasing trade and investment between the two countries. Prior to his appointment as High Commissioner to Singapore, Amb. Uwihanganye served as Minister of State for Transport in Rwanda.
