As Rwanda and the world commemorated for the 28th time the Genocide against the Tutsi, citizens and friends of Rwanda living in other countries gathered in different places to honour more than one million victims, on April 7. In an event organised by the East African Community, members of the community participated in a walk to remember and laying of wreaths at the Commemoration monument, among others, at its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. In the same country’s largest city Dar es Salaam, the Rwandan community in Tanzania held a Kwibuka 28 event where Amb. Liberata Mulamula, Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation graced the event and appealed for the arrest and trial of Genocide fugitives. Members of the African Union also marked the commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi in an event held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa. Other countries in which the Diaspora and friends of Rwanda held commemoration events include India, china, Senegal, Sweden, and USA, among others. Amb. Mathilde Mukantabana giving her remarks at a Kwibuka 28 event in the US which was held in hybrid format. Amb. Members of the African Union observe a moment of silence during the commemoration event of the Genocide against the Tutsi at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on April 7. On 7th April 2022, the Embassy of Rwanda in China hosted officials from the government of China, diplomatic envoys, representatives of international organizations, friends of Rwanda and Rwandans in China for commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in India observe a minute of silence to pay tribute to the victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi. Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in Senegal paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against Tutsi. The EAC joined the international community and people of Rwanda to commemorate the Genocide against the Tutsi. The event was preceded by a walk to remember and laying of wreaths at the Commemoration monument at the Headquarters. The Embassy and the Swedish-African Parliamentary Network and Ibuka Sweden jointly organised the 28th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in the Swedish Parliament.
