Generally, people are used to consuming boiled or steamed cabbage. However, nutritionists point out that there is also another method, which is in form of juice, and one can still get more health benefits just like other forms. Cabbage juice is not only good for health but works wonders for the skin and hair as well. David Rukerabigwi, a dietician and nutritionist in Kigali says normally, cabbage is a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, with the juice; it benefits the body in many ways, from weight loss to glowing skin. He notes that cabbage juice is loaded with nutrients, such as vitamins C and K, and that drinking it has been linked to many purported benefits, including weight loss and improved gut health. Besides, he says the juice from cabbage also helps in making the immune system strong. “Taking cabbage juice has also been associated with reducing blood pressure, delaying aging and making hair stronger as well as reducing hair fall because of its rich in potassium,” he says. Being a green vegetable, he says cabbage juice is high in mineral content; as such it helps in making the skin stronger, and its dose of vitamin C boosts immunity. Rene Tabaro, a nutritionist at King Faisal Hospital says cabbage juice helps in fighting free radicals, as it’s an excellent source of vitamin K and C, which help in fighting free radicals. He says that normally, free radicals are the main cause of diseases such as cancer and heart issues. These vitamins are also essential to keep hair follicles healthy and circulate scalp oil. In addition, he says the juice also helps in detoxifying the skin, noting that both purple and green cabbage is rich in silicon and sulphur, the beauty minerals. “Sulphur is particularly present in every cell as it is responsible for pulling in nutrition and removing waste from your cells,” he says. He goes on to explain that cabbage juice helps in flushing out toxins from the body, thus it helps in detoxifying, making dull skin appearance go away, giving one a glowing look. Rukerabigwi says cabbage juice contains also antioxidant which plays a role in detoxifying the liver. In general, he says the liver plays a crucial role in various metabolic functions of the body including protein synthesis, hormone production, and glycogen storage regulation among other benefits. Cabbage juice helps in improving the bowel movement as well and as such keeps the lever in a good condition,” he says. From studies, sulforaphane, found in cabbage, helps in preventing cells from carcinogens. Cabbage juice contains isocyanate, which helps in preventing the risks of breast cancer, lung, stomach, prostate, and colon cancer, according to a study done by Georgetown University Medical Center (USA). For those looking for maintaining or losing weight, cabbage juice could be a health fix when you need to rejuvenate. He says that not only will it help one feel refreshed but keep a tab on problems related to obesity, but also the juice can be effective in helping reduce kilos if you drink it on a daily basis.
