Equity Bank Rwanda Plc has rewarded the first four winners in the ongoing card usage campaign. The campaign known as ‘Ikarita Ikora Hose’ translated in English as “The Card for all your Needs” aims to increase the uptake and use of the Bank’s visa debit cards. The four lucky customers of the month of August won a microwave, washing machine, smart refrigerator and shopping vouchers. Bruce Sanatubuye, one of the lucky winners who won a smart fridge acquired his card just two months ago. The card, he said, is facilitating him to make payments wherever he goes. Equity Bank officials pose for a photo after the awarding ceremony. “I received a call telling me that I was the winner. Thanks to the Equity Bank debit card I can easily pay for everything, and now I have won a prize,” he said. Jean Claude Gaga, the Commercial Director at Equity Bank Rwanda, said that the goal for the campaign was to enlighten customers that with the card they can save time by paying for goods and services without necessarily having to visit the ATM to withdraw cash. Gaga was presiding over the handover of the prizes at Equity Bank Remera Branch where he told clients that with the card they can walk into a supermarket, gas station, restaurant or pharmacy and pay for goods and services directly through the point of sale (POS) machine. “In addition to that, we wanted people to touch cash as little as possible as a means of curbing the Covid-19 pandemic, but also reduce the risk of them losing their money when they have it in hand,” he added. “We select our winners by tracking the transactions they make, from frequency and volumes, and compare them statistically and see who ranks the best. We call the winners live on radio so as to make the whole process as transparent as possible.” The campaign will go on until June 2022, and every month winners will be awarded.
