Equity Bank Rwanda Plc has rewarded three winners in the ongoing card usage campaign known as ‘Ikarita Ikora Hose,’ translated in English as “The Card for all your Needs. The campaign which started in July 2021 aims to increase the uptake and use of the bank’s visa debit cards. These include USD-denominated Equity Bank Visa Gold Debit Card and Equity Bank Visa Infinite Card. The three lucky customers won a smart refrigerator, microwave and gas cooker. Ferdinand Nizeyimana who won the grand prize, a smart fridge, said he has been using visa card since 2016 and has been making transactions within and outside Rwanda. “I used it to pay for goods and services in supermarkets, restaurants, and while shopping abroad; it has helped me to make transactions. I was able to access my bank account wherever I was without having to carry a bunch of cash with me,” he said. According to Jean-Jacques Kajuga, Head of Payments and Digital Channels at Equity Bank Rwanda Plc, since the launch of ‘Ikarita Ikora Hose’ campaign, the bank noticed a growth in digital payment with the use of cards. He noted that the number of cards they’ve been issuing daily has tripled, adding that customers are happy about that and that giving them prizes is a sign of appreciation. “It also motivates the bank to work hard and come up with more products,” he said. “This campaign is an effort that the bank is making to sensitise its customers to embrace digital payment because today, as the government encourages cashless economy, the bank has been working so hard to avail as many digital payment options as possible and one of them is having a card.” The good thing with a Visa card, he continued, is that you are not only able to make payments locally but also globally. The cards include Equity Bank Visa Infinite Card, a premium card that gives cardholders free travel insurance that covers the spouse and children, plus unlimited access to more than 800 airport lounges all over the world. Equity Bank Rwanda began its operations in 2011 and is registered as a commercial bank by the National Bank of Rwanda. The bank has a foot-print of 15 branches and is supported by 2800 agents, 1224 merchants and a network of 21 ATMs. Equity Bank Rwanda Plc has rewarded three winners in the ongoing card usage campaign known as ‘Ikarita Ikora Hose.
