It was stuff of royalty as U.S-based singer Médard Jobert Ngabo tied the knot with his Ethiopian-born lover Mimi Mehfira on Saturday, May 22, in a glamorous ceremony attended by friends, relatives and different Rwandan celebrities. The colourful ceremony took place in the U.S city of Dallas, Texas where the couple resides, attended by a limited number of selected invitees from both sides due to Covid-19 limitations. Meddy, as he is commonly known, and Mimi, were all smiles as they were driven away in a horse carriage after saying ‘I do’ as friends and relatives cheered them on. The couple hosted the event in a castle-like mansion fit for Kings and Queens, adding a touch of class to everything, from the organisation to the dress code and the entire set up. The 31-year-old has been head-over-heels ever since he popped the question to the beautiful Mimi in December 2020 and it could show as the couple walked into the reception beaming with smiles. Meddy serenaded the love of his life with a new song specifically written for her ‘Queen of Sheba’, in honour of Mimi’s place of birth, while fellow singer The Ben sang for the couple his love ballad ‘Roho Yanjye’. Singer King James also performed at the wedding. The couple enjoyed ‘Ganyobwe’, the high tempo rendition of the traditional song in what seemed like a nostalgic moment for the members of the diaspora. A host of Rwandan celebrities including Miss Rwanda 2009 Grace Bahati, K8 Kavuyo, singers Shaffy, Adrien Misigaro and Emmy as well as actress and poet Malaika Uwamahoro and her husband Chris Kayitenshonga Grace Bahati with Mimi The couple enjoyed intimate moments on the dancefloor, surrounded by friends who could not stop cheering and congratulating the besotted newlyweds. According to sources, Meddy’s parents travelled from Kigali to attend the ceremony which took place nearly six months after he proposed to Mimi. Reports say the singer and Mimi will also travel to Ethiopia for a traditional ceremony and later come to Rwanda where they will host another ceremony. Malaika Uwamahoro, Chris Kayite and The Ben Meddy proposed to Mimi in a colourful event in Dallas, on December 18, 2020, which happened to be Mimi’s birthday.
