Music duo Charly and Nina are set to go on a month- long school tour dubbed #1000 Girls Iwacu, umukobwa ni ahazaza From May 8 to June 7, the duo will be touring schools all over the country, in mainly the eight districts of Muhanga, Huye, Rwamagana, Ngoma, Rusizi, Karongi, Musanze and Rubavu. They will be speaking to girls in schools and sharing life skills with them, such as HIV prevention, risks of unwanted pregnancy, the importance of staying in school. The tour is sponsored by European Union and will be coordinated by Arthur Nation. “This was our way of giving back to the communities and talking to the girls about problems that teenage girls face in everyday life. We believe that young girls need mentors and people to look up to which is what we want to do. Some of us were raised in rural areas and we know the importance of having mentors to equip you with the right life skills. This is something we have been thinking of doing for the last three years and we are grateful to European Union for sponsoring us to put it this into practice,” Nina shared The New Times. She added that although the tour is spearheaded by the music duo, they have also invited a few female singers to talk to the girls. Charly and Nina have over the past few years made a name for themselves, with hit songs like, Indoro, Owooma, Try me, Face to face and Komeza Unyirebere. editor@newtimesrwanda.com.
