OVER THE LAST DECADE, Made in Rwanda brands received growing global recognition, which also saw the dispatching of many fashion designers in the industry. Since 2011, House of Tayo which is one of the top fashion houses in Rwanda has made its way in dressing some of the greatest celebrities globally. The New Times brings to you a list of celebrities that rocked House of Tayo Brand, with the majority who appeared wearing its latest collection dubbed Ijezi. Peter Junior Nyong’o Peter Junior, who is also the younger brother to Oscar-winning actress Lupita Amondi Nyong’o, accompanied his sister to the premiere of Black Panther, which took place in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018 rocking a custom 3 piece suit made by House of Tayo. The development of Made in Rwanda making it to Black Panther premiering on the red carpet was a triumph to the whole industry. Davido The Nigerian Afro star who is one of the best African musicians at the moment is another celebrity who rocked House of Tayo. During his first performance in Rwanda in 2014, Davido appeared in a Biker Jacket designed and Made by House of Tayo. Dubbed ‘Liberation Concert,’ the show attracted thousands of Rwandans and became one of the successful concerts that took place in Rwanda. Joakim Noah During the Finals of The Basketball Africa League (BAL), Joakim Simon Noah, a French-American former professional basketball player, rocked the latest collection of House of Tayo dubbed ‘Ijezi.’ The Chicago Bulls selected Noah with the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He is a two-time NBA All-Star and was named to the All-NBA First Team in 2014 when he was also named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Burna Boy The Grammy nominated Afro Pop singer was gifted a customized safari Kimono with Fela Kuti artwork by House of Tayo on his last visit to Rwanda in 2019. He was in Rwanda to headline his first concert in the country dubbed Burna Boy Experience Kigali. The African giant maker was spotted several times wearing the customised jacket in different areas of the world. Amadou Fall The National Basketball Association (NBA) Vice President and also Head of BAL Amadou Gallo Fall rocked the Ijezi t-shirt by House of Tayo in Kigali. Amadou Gallo Fall served as the Director of Player Personnel for the Dallas Mavericks and then NBA Vice President in charge of international affairs before being appointed President of the Basketball Africa Basketball League. Mr Eazi In his recent business visit to Kigali, Mr Eazy, a renowned Nigerian musician who pioneered the Banku Sub-genre was spotted in Gisenyi wearing customized Ijezi with his name on it. He was in Rwanda for two weeks in May 2021, where he also revealed that is going to invest in the country. Adekunle Gold Adekunle Gold AKA AG baby is one of the celebrities that also rocked the latest collection of House of Tayo, Ijezi. On November 16, 2021, Adekunle was spotted wearing ‘Ijezi’ in Nairobi alongside Bien Aime who is a member of Sauti soul, a renowned singing group in Africa. Ruger The fast rising Nigerian artiste who was in Kigali last weekend to headline the Drip City concert, also appeared on stage wearing the ‘Ijezi’ customised T-shirt. He spent five days in Rwanda and thrilled thousands during his performance which took place at Canal Olympia Rebero on February 19, 2022. Poizon Ivy Celebrated American female DJ Poizon Ivy, the official disk jockey for NBA giants Dallas Mavericks, rocked ‘Ijezi’ in June 2021 when she was the official disc jockey and sound coordinator at the Basketball Africa League. She was spotted several times wearing this Made in Rwanda brand in Africa and even posted different pictures rocking it on her social media platforms. Sarkodie The renowned African rapper is also among the celebrities that rocked different Made in Rwanda brands, and ‘Ijezi’ t-shirt is among them. During a concert which took place in December 2021, Sarkodie appeared in ‘Ijezi’ on the stage alongside a Nigerian star, 2baba.
