A 72-year-old man succumbed to Covid-19 in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province, on Friday, November 13, raising the tally of Rwanda’s Covid-19 deaths to 42. The same district has been consistently reporting Covid-19 fatalities and infections, mostly linked to Nsinda Prison located in the area. According to the Ministry of Health, 2,759 sample tests were taken in the last 24 hours, and among them 43 tested positive for the virus. Of the positive Covid-19 cases, 36 were detected in Muhanga Prison, whereas Rubavu and Nyamagabe districts confirmed two cases each. Meanwhile, the City of Kigali and the districts of Kirehe and Rwamagana reported a single Covid-19 infection each. So far, prisons are the country’s main Covid-19 hotspot, after infections have been reported in Nsinda, Nyarugenge and Muhanga prisons so far. Rwanda currently has a total of 5,362 Covid-19 confirmed cases of which 4,993 have already recovered and discharged. The country has so far carried out 582,412 Covid-19 tests.
