Irish potatoes, millet flour prices up

Prices of millet flour and Irish potatoes have gone up marginally. A kilogramme of Irish potatoes now costs Rfw230 in Nyabugogo and Nyamirambo markets, up from Rwf220 last week.Millet flour goes for Rwf1,250 a kilo in most markets and shops around the city from Rwf1,200 a few days ago. A tray of eggs is at Rwf3,000 across major markets in Kigali from Rwf2,500 last week.Traders attributed the increase to the recent slight hike in fuel prices.Last week, a litre of fuel (both petrol and diesel) was increased from Rfw1,000 to Rwf1,030.Elsewhere, prices for other commodities have yet not risen though traders predicted they could soon inch up.Sugar costs Rwf800 a kilogramme and that of bananas is at Rwf200, beans cost between Rwf500 and Rwf650 a kilo in Kimironko Market. A kilogramme of beef costs Rwf2,300 and rice costs Rwf1,000.Cassava costs Rwf700, groundnuts Rwf1,200 a kilo and maize flour goes for Rwf670 a kilo in Nyarugenge and Kimironko markets, respectively. Wheat goes for Rwf1,000 a kilogramme in Kicukiro Market.A litre of cooking oil goes for Rwf1,500 and passion fruits cost between Rwf1,000 and Rwf1,400 a kilogramme and salt costs Rwf250.A litre of paraffin goes for Rwf1,000 and milk costs Rwf400 per litre.
