A horrible confession

I even paid the tuition fees for her diploma.” That’s John’s confession.“My blood, tears and sweat transformed Claire from a scrawny village lass to a very beautiful lady. It had washed the frown from her face and replaced it with the most beautiful smile known to man. Seeing her happy and healthy made me hopeful again and gave me a reason to struggle even more. I knew with her by my side, no mountain was too high, no ocean was too deep, even the sky wasn’t the limit. By that time, her well being was my achievement, the only thing that mattered to me, the reason I breathed every day.”“But to my horror, just a few months after graduation, Claire changed. She started disrespecting me; she openly told me I wasn’t her ‘class’, that she was even embarrassed to be seen with me. I knelt down begging her not to leave me. “Look at yourself, you are weak! When I didn’t die the first week I resorted to burying myself in work to avoid drowning in misery. Like the saying goes, lucky at cards, unlucky in love; I got lucky and made more money than I ever thought possible.With my new found wealth, I did everything possible to get back my lost love. I re-seduced Claire and married her. To be honest, I didn’t marry her because of love, my love for her died the instant she closed the door on me. I married her for revenge; for dumping me simply because I was broke.After having our first born, I laid down the cards on the table and told her how she was nothing but a heartless gold-digger. I told her how much I despised her. I told her of my other woman, the one I really love and care about. As for her, she was just another possession. I promised to give her money and other material things but never my heart or respect. Today we live together (like housemates).
