Are churches becoming materialistic? (You can’t use my tithe to by a Mercedes!)

I used to love Bible stories when I was young, in fact, I had my own children’s book of Bible stories. As often as I could, I read those stories and eventually moved on to the actual Bible. Now I may not have read the whole thing, but I am very certain that back in the day, people didn’t need to offer cars and houses and what have you to pastors in order to be blessed!I was utterly shocked when I heard about a church that frowns upon people who offer coins! This is disturbing on so many levels; for one, show me anywhere in the Bible where Jesus thought coins were too low for Him or the church. Two, we don’t make the same money; if that is what I can afford, that is what you will get. Three, if I will only get blessed depending on how much I offer, then I’m safer off praying in the comfort of my bedroom!Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with tithe. But I have seen, heard and been around churches that literally take advantage of people and call it a blessing. I don’t think it’s fair to offer my money thinking it’s going to be used to help the less fortunate only to spot the pastor arriving for service in a car so expensive, you can literally see a gold price tag!You know things are getting out of hand when your pastor brings up new ways to get tithe. It’s bad enough signing a check but to ask people to send their contribution via mobile money is stretching it a bit, don’t you think? So many churches have hit the shady corner and it’s probably easier to nail water to a tree than it is to find a church that is not taken up by the materialism of human nature. At this rate, if I went around giving homeless people food or water, the tithe I would have paid would be put to better use. But because some Christians get a kick out of putting others down, they will insist you are not doing things the right way – regardless of whether you are giving and that tithe is for church – not beggars. After all the mansions, expensive cars and luxurious getaway’s we’ve seen our religious leaders enjoy, I think God can’t blame me for hanging onto my money and putting it to better use. I’m just saying.
