RwandAir has won the Africa Travel Awards Best African Airline (short haul) Award for 2013. “We are honoured to receive this significant recognition by the aviation family. To know that the tourism and trade sectors continue to notice of our airline and find us worthy of such an award motivates us to keep striving for greatness,” John Mirenge, the RwandAir chief executive officer, said in a statement yesterday.The airline was chosen based on its quality of service and operations in the region (West Africa). Patrick Manzi, the RwandAir head of marketing and Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria H.E. Joseph Habineza received the award at the opening ceremony of the 9th Akwaaba Tourism Fair on October 27 in Lagos, Nigeria.Mirenge thanked the airline’s staff for their hard work, dedication and discipline, saying it was due to these attributes that the airline was recognised. “Since we started operations 10 years ago, we have been one of the fastest-growing carriers on the continent,” Mirenge noted. Meanwhile, yesterday was Rwanda Day at the Akwaaba Tourism festival, where visitors were able to sample e Rwanda’s culture, attractions and cuisine.Tourism boards from Rwanda, Kenya, The Gambia, South Africa and hosts Nigeria are represented at the fair.
