Police in Bugesera District is holding a man for allegedly killing his wife.The suspect, a resident of Nyiragiseke village in Rweru sector, is currently detained at Nyamata Police Station.He is alleged to have killed his wife on Wednesday after a domestic quarrel.“During sustained interrogation, the accused broke down and admitted having killed his wife. He claimed his wife would often quarrel with him over petty issues and his drinking habits,” police said.Eastern Region Police spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police Jean Marie Njangwe warned residents against domestic violence. “People should have amicable way of resolving conflicts,” he told mourners.The suspect faces life imprisonment upon conviction.Another incident In a related case, a 24 year-old woman is held at Sake Police Station in Ngoma District after injuring her husband with a machete.The middle aged man, Jean Tumurere, is currently admitted at Kibungo Hospital after his arm was severed with a machete.Yohana Mutabazi, the village leader, warned families embroiled in domestic conflicts and violence.“The cases you hear come from homes that have been embroiled in conflicts for a long time …they are characterised by alcoholism and promiscuity. Unless they reform, they are doomed,” he said.
