SOS marks 29 years in Rwanda

Last Friday SOS Rwanda celebrated 29 years of existence in Rwanda and according to its Director, Alfred Munyentwari, about 700 orphans living under the care of SOS Rwanda in its Kacyiru branch, get access to education at Nursery, primary and secondary levels to improve on their future livelihoods. Munyentwari said that others get a chance to attend technical institutions under the organization’s sponsorship. He also said the celebrations were aimed at calling for more support in helping orphans and street Children get access to education. “Access to education will help former street children to know that education is the best key to progress, and this will pave their way to drop that mentality of begging,” he added. Munyentwari further noted that in connection with government’s Vision 2020 plan when they are no more street children, these children after receiving knowledge, will help bring those who are still on the streets to come and join them. The head of SOS Rwanda urged other International bodies and the government to take up actions with kind hearts of helping street children and child headed families since most of them got into this situation due to the 1994 Tutsi Genocide and HIV/Aids. Munyentwari said that today, SOS has three orphanages and plans to construct another in Kayonza, Eastern Province. He added that the organization provides medical insurance (Mituelle de santé), clothes and food among others. SOS is a none profit making NGO that looks after orphans. Kacyiru orphanage was founded in 1979 with the purpose of uplifting street Children and other child headed families. Ends
