Sunday: Men APR 3-1 NURWomen RRA 2-3 APR APR Volleyball Club defeated archrivals National University of Rwanda to win the 2013 men’s Carre d’AS title. It was a double win as their sister club as well retained the women’s crown on Sunday.The revenge comes a week after the varsity side beat the army team 3-0 in the league playoffs final. APR took the day in a match where both teams showed unbelievable desire to win in-front of a crowded Amahoro indoor stadium. APR was led by former U21 players; Aimable Mutuyimana, Fred Musoni, who did a fantastic job on spikes, while Yves Mutabazi was in imperious form on blocks as their team retained title.The champions were boosted by the presence on the touchline of head coach Sammy Mulinge Mutemi, who missed the Playoffs finals due to national engagement with Kenya’s U23 women’s team at the World Championships in Mexico.APR started well and won the first set 25-19, NUR recovered to take the second set 25-23 but the holders upped their game in the third and fourth sets which they won 25-23 and 27-25 respectively.This was Fidele Nyirimana’s last match as NUR coach after confirming he was leaving the Huye-based side after 12 years to take over at newly formed Rayon Sports VC.In women category, APR continued their dominance of local volleyball after beating Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-2. APR also won the league title last weekend with the similar score line.APR won the first set 25-20; RRA hit back and took the next two sets 25-15 and 18-25 respectively. However, RRA lost their momentum after the 2012 African Most Valuable Player Regina Feza Izabayo was ruled out of play due to an ankle injury. This gave an edge to the holders to win the remaining two sets 25-20 and 15-10.
