Rwanda’s Celestin Ntagungira has been cleared to officiate at the Beijing Olympic Games after successfully passing the Fifa fitness test held on Monday in South Africa. The Fifa, Caf and Ferwafa licensed assistant referee will officiate at the global event scheduled for August 8-24.The examination held at Johannesburg Stadium tested all referees selected from the African continent. Fifa has made sure that these tests be done more than a week before the start of the tournaments. The two other tests for referees from other continents will be held in Europe and America. Ntagungira is set to attend a workshop for referees set for July 25-29 in Johannesburg before jetting to Beijing on July 30. Ntagungira, 40, who has been refereeing since 1997, took charge of his first international in 2001 and went on to officiate at big tournaments including the Nations Cup (2006 and 2008) as well as the 2006 World Cup but says he wants more out of the Olympic Games.
