Rwanda Chess Federation has started preparations for the upcoming Open Chess Competition, which is scheduled for November 16- 24.According to the Chairman of the Chess Kevin Ganza, the players are practicing in their respective clubs.This will be pre-qualifiers for the 41st World Chess Olympiad to be held in August 2014 in Tromso, Norway.“I just wished to share with you the updates on what is going on in the Rwanda Chess Federation. It seems Chess is dormant these days but actually more efforts are in preparations of the players,” Ganza said recently.He added, “What is not yet confirmed but under assessment is that, this open competition is likely having 2 sections (Section A: Seniors and then Section B: Juniors (kids of 8 to 15 years old) but we are in preparations of the event.”“We are also dealing with the legal entity issues for our clubs (we have to make sure that at least 3 Clubs legally exist by December 2013),” he stated.Meanwhile the official confirmed that the federation is working on the Chess in School project, “We have already identified up to 18 candidate primary schools to initiate the project; they will be using the Mini-chess programme which was developed and is being used in South Africa.”
