All roads will on Sunday morning lead to Amahoro national stadium for the first edition of the MTN Kigali Half Marathon. According to the organizers, well over 1000 athletics have registered for the event, including 400 participants in the 21km main event, which will set off from Amahoro Stadium to Kigali Business Center before returning to Amahoro Stadium. The winner will work away with Rwf500,000, second place will get Rwf350,000, third position will receive Rwf250,000, for fourth position will get Rwf200,000, the fifth placed will receive Rwf100,000 while for the sixth position will walk away with Rwf50,000. This will be the only competition to be used to select the team that will represent the country at the 2014 World half marathon in Denmark. Among the elite athletes vying for places on the national team are; Italy-based Jean Baptiste Simuceka, Eric Sebahire, Claudette Mukasakindi and Angelique Nyiransabimana. The defending champion Robert Kajuga, who is nursing an Achilles heel injury and Jean Pierre Mvuyekure will both miss the inaugural Kigali MTN half marathon. Some of the home-based runners, who will compete for the places on the 21km-team include, Godfrey Rutayisire, Felix Ntirenganya, Cyriaque Ndayikengurukiye, Alexis Nizeyimana, Jean Marie Vianney Uwajeneza, Retien Ntawuyirushintego, Adeline Musabyeyezu, Jean d’Arc Mukakigeri and Epiphanie Nyirabarame.
