Help your child with learning

These days I make an effort to help my daughter with her home work and also teach her a few things almost like home schooling. I would like her to develop good study habits but I am really not so sure of how to do that. Winnie, Kacyiru Dear Winnie,It is good to hear of a parent so interested in helping their child to study well. It is now expected that parents should help their children with academic work. It is important for a parent to concern themselves with the academic life of their children all the time. To help your child develop good study habits there a few things you can do. You do not have to be so strict because this is home not school. You can start by discussing expectations. Let your child tell you the class position she will be aiming for at the beginning of the school term. Talk with your child on how she hopes to achieve her academic goals then plan a time table together. Therefore she should know the time that has been set aside for study while at home. To keep pace, your child should do a little everyday instead of too much work on someday and nothing on other days. Of course, it also helps to coordinate with the teacher. Find out from the teacher how your child performs or behaves while at school. This can give you an insight into whether they love studying or not. When your child arrives from school, give her some time to relax and have a snack before you can begin home study. If possible, you should find a place where she can study with minimal disturbances.
