Gicumbi have one hand on the second handball league title since wining their first 2007 and celebrations have already started in that part of the country. The Gucumbi District-based team all but ended Police’s hopes of claiming a four consecutive title with a 35-29 win in the decisive league clash between the two title favourites last Sunday. Gicumbi captain Francois Xavier Ngarambe was the man of the match after scoring game high 11 goals, and was ably supported by Ezedi Muhirwa and Eric Kaneza, who added in 7 and 6 goals respectively. Amandin Rugira and Viateur Rwamanwa led Police’s charge with 8 and 7 goals respectively. Northern Province based Gicumbi, who last won the league title in 2007, have been the more consistent eam in the league this season and with one game left to play against the National University of Rwanda, it hard to see them fail to finish off the job. As it stands, run away champions Gicumbi lead the table with 36 points, two ahead of holders Police, ES Kigoma are third with 33 points, while APR are 4th with 31 points.
