Hosts, Gicumbi last won the league title back in 2007 and will be looking to tame the defending champions in the second round match this morning. Police is the only team to beat their today’s opponent this season in the first round. A win for Police will take them a step closer to winning title for third consecutive season. After today’s clash, both sides will have one more game left to play against the National University of Rwanda. “We have prepared this game (against Gicumbi) in the best way possible, and the players are determined to give their best as we bid to retain our title, a win on Sunday will move us closer to achieving that target,” Police’s head coach Anaclet Bagirishya told Sunday Sport yesterday. His counterpart of Gicumbi, Ebenezel Murenzi said, “The result of that match will increase of decrease our chances to win the league, nonetheless, we are well prepared mentally, tactically and physically.” Both side sides have lost once and drew one in the league this season. Police lost to ES Kigoma and drew with Police-Rubavu, while Gicumbi lost to Police and drew with ES Kigoma. Going into today’s fixtures, both Police and Gicumbi are tied on top of the table with 33 points but Police lead on goal difference. Former champions APR are third with 31 points, ES Kigoma are fourth on 30 points, Nyakabanda and NUR are fifth and sixth with 18 points each, while GS Rambura and Police-Rubavu stand on 7th and 8th positions with 11 and 8 points respectively.
