Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the Ministry of Health have started a campaign to mobilise the general public to undergo voluntary HIV testing.The 10-day exercise, which kicked off on Thursday, saw police officers stationed in the districts of Nyagatare and Kirehe in the Eastern Province, tested. The exercise will also cover Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and their families.The campaign will also include talk-shows on community radio stations to educate the public on HIV and how those who are found positive can live a positive life.Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Rubanzana, the Commissioner for Medical Services, said the exercise is part of the Force’s drive to ensure good health of its officers and the public in general.“Security is the cornerstone of development. Yet we cannot achieve that goal unless our people and officers are in good health,” he observed.He also advised men to undergo circumcision, which he said reduces risks of HIV infection.
