Two orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi were last week handed a four-bedroom house worth Rwf20m built for them by the National Agriculture Export Development Board (NAEB).Jeannette Byukusenge and Grace Mushimiyimana are both daughters of Augustine Shirahayo, a former employee of Ocir Café, now absorbed into NAEB, who was killed during the Genocide. “After our parents died, even our closest family friends would not take us in, so we have been wandering in desperate search for shelter all our lives; we are overwhelmed by this gesture,” said a tearful Mushimiyimana during the hand over of the house located in Masaka Sector , Kicuciro District.Janet Bassima, the head of corporate services at NAEB, said every year they reach out to people affected by the Genocide.Gaspard Gasasira, the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide, called upon the orphans to be strong and focus on the way forward.
