WESTERN PROVINCE NYAMASHEKE — Christian Aid International, a USA based NGO, has donated building materials worth Frw30 millions, to the victims of the February earthquake that hit Nyamasheke district. The items delivered through the Rwanda Union of Baptist Church, at the weekend, included 5,490 iron sheets and 2, 000 kg nails. The materials are meant to benefit 139 families that were severely hit by the quake including, vulnerable residents affected by the 1994 Genocide in Bushenge sector. While addressing some of the beneficiaries, sector authorities and residents at the sector office, Andrew Muvara, an official of Christian Aid, said that their donation was out of compassion for the beneficiaries. “The Christian Aid as a charity organisation strongly felt the plight of…. and this donation is meant to improve their living conditions because helping the needy is among our first objectives,” Muvara said. Promising more support to the district, Muvara urged the sector authorities to ensure that the materials go to the genuine beneficiaries. François Nirere, the Executive Secretary of the Bushenge sector hailed the donors for their contribution and called upon them to continue extending more support to the sector. She cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the materials. In March, Nirere said, over 400 families among them quake victims and other vulnerable groups lacked shelter in Bushenge, but the number has since reduced due to intervention by government and other donors. Out of the 139 beneficiaries, each individual would get 40 iron sheets and 2 kg of nails. Ends
