Police, Dutch in joint anti-GBV fight

The netherlands has committed to working with Rwanda National Police in policing efforts, especially on Gender-based Violence (GBV).This follows a meeting between Dutch Ambassador Leoni Margarita Cuelenaere and IGP Emmanuel Gasana at Police headquarters. The IGP expressed gratitude to the Dutch government for the continued cooperation and support to Rwanda National Police in various fields. “I’m happy for your zeal and commitment to assist Rwanda National Police to fulfill its assignments,” Gasana said during the meeting that was also attended by officials from One UN. Pledging moreA technical team composed of RNP, One-UN, the Dutch Embassy and other government institutions, was set up to study how to decentralise the anti-GBV clinic–Isange One-Stop Centre–to reach all parts of the country. The centre offers free psycho-socio and legal services to GBV victims. The study would also include establishing these centres in refugee camps. The report is scheduled to be completed in a week. Amb. Cuelenaere commended RNP for its efforts to fight GBV. “Nobody should ever be denied their rights; I’m optimistic Rwanda National Police will succeed in this battle against GBV,” she said. The envoy pledged continued cooperation to enable RNP fulfill its mandate.
