In a bid to find ways of developing the sport, local athletics coaches have formed an umbrella body, Athletics Coaches Association, but which will fall under the Rwanda Athletics Association. The Association was formed after a meeting at Amahoro national stadium on Tuesday by 23 local athletics coaches and other stake holders. An executive committee of five people was set to lead the Association for six months with a task of setting regulations to govern the body. The committee is lead by Emmanuel Murenzi, vice chairman is Israel Nshimayezu, with Ignace Abiyingoma and Emmanuel Habiyambere being elected as advisors. The Association’s Secretary General is Jean Pierre Ndacyayisenga. “It is a historic big day for all athletics coaches in the country; we badly needed something like this in order to put the sport back to the top where it belongs. The creation of the Association will help us to be together and when we work together, it will help to raise the level of athletics in Rwanda,” Ndacyayisenga told this paper.
