Davite races into second day lead

Seif Muselem (Rwa) 5.41.27 Rwandan national champion Giancarlo Davite survived the rugged and eventful 174.50km second day in Muhanda to win the second leg of the 2013 Rwanda Mt. Gorilla Rally on Saturday. Davite, driving a Subaru Impreza N10 ‘Umuleti’, clocked one hour, fifty eight minutes and fifty six seconds to come ahead of African Rally Championship title top contender Jas Mangat of Uganda in a competitive race which saw drivers complete six runs from Muhanda to Nduba. Mangat, who took a big step in maintaining the lead at the top of the ARC title race after winning day one on Friday, took second spot on day two in a time of two hours, two minutes and twenty-seven second. He stands three minutes and thirty-one seconds behind Davite going into the third and final day on Sunday. Defending champion Elefter Mitraros finished third on day two after clocking 2.17.00, while Christakis Fitidis finished fourth after clocking 2:14:19. Another ARC title contender, Jassy Singh of Zambia, had a tough day as he finished a distant fifth position after using 2.23.26. Mayaka Felekani, who had completed day one in 13th position, made a big stride as he finished day two in sixth place. Burundian Abbas Mohammed, Ugandan Fred Wapamba, Rwandan Ange Cyatangabo and Patrick Kiwewe complete the top ten. The rally, the seventh on the ARC calendar, goes into its final day when drivers take part in four competitive sections totaling 101.60 kilometres with 138.80 kilometres of road sections from Mukoto to Nduba. The winners will be crowned at Gikondo expo grounds in the afternoon.
