Football league champions Rayon Sports are closer to swooping former APR striker Kabange Twite from DR Congo side FC St Eloi Lupopo, Times Sport has learnt. The Congolese forward, whose twin brother Mbuyu Twite plays for Rwanda’s national team, Amavubi Stars, is out of contract this month and he’s free to listen to offers from other clubs.According to Rayon Sports Secretary Olivier Gakwaya, talks between the two parties are at advanced stages and what is remaining now is for the player to come to Kigali to seal the deal.“The talks are going well, only a few details are remaining before he can put pen to paper,” Gakwaya said on Monday. He added, “We need him because he is a player we know very well from his days at APR, and we believe that if we manage to get him he will strengthen Rayon Sports.”Kabange played for Rayon’s archrivals APR, from 2007-2012, winning four league titles, three Peace Cups and three Cecafa Kagame Cup titles.Regarding reports linking Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere to the champions, Gakwaya said, “We have talked with him and it’s up to him to make his decision on where he wants to play.”Many believe the club has all but sealed the deal with the two players. But Kagere insists there is no deal between him and the champions. Both Kabange and Kagere are on the squad list that the Nyanza-based club submitted to Rwanda football federation, Ferwafa, ahead of the 2013/14 season which gets underway later this month.Didier Gomez da Roza’s Rayon will begin their title defence against newcomers Gicumbi FC on September 28 at Amahoro stadium.Meanwhile, Rayon drew 2-2 against old rivals SC Kiyovu on Sunday in an unusual pre-season friendly game at Stade de Kigali, Nyamirambo.Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankore’s Kiyovu took a first half 2-0 lead through Burundian striker Lautidt Mavugo (a penalty) and teenage midfielder Mwajili Hakizimana but the Blues recovered in the second half with a brace from Burundian winger Fuadi Ndayisenga.
