Rwanda Karate Federation organised the first-ever Karate Liberation Cup tournament, on August 5, in Rubavu town. Happening for the first time, the new competition was introduced as the Rwandan Karate fraternity looked to join the nation in celebrating the liberation struggle's achievements. The competition was followed, on Sunday, by Karate training sessions on the beach by the shores of Lake Kivu. The two-day event attracted 120 Karatekas; 23 women and 97 men from clubs including APR, Zen Karate-Do, The Champions Sports Academy, Karongi Karate-Do, University of Rwanda Huye Campus, UR Nyagatare, UR CST, Dragon Rubavu, Heroes Karate-Do Rafiki, and Kamikaze Karate-Do.
