YOUNG Rwandan drivers can now apply for the next Africa selection event for FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy.Rwanda Automobile Club chairman Christian Gakwaya told Times Sport yesterday that motorsport fraternity is looking for young drivers under 23 years to go for a prestigious course.According to Gakwaya, the hunt is on to find a young Rwandan driver to be sent to the Young Drivers Academy in South Africa.“The academy is run by the FIA and it enrolls young talented drivers from different countries. The next programme runs from September 28 to October 2,” he said.Gakwaya added that the aspiring young driver should have the passion and the skill to make it as there will be competition for places at the academy.He explained, ‘We are looking for the right candidate since we feel this is a great opportunity for young Rwandans to pursue their dream and possibly end up in the formula 1 circuit.”Gakwaya admitted that the country still lags behind in grassroots development and that it was going to be “very difficult to find the right candidate.”“This is an open opportunity for all young Rwandans in the specified age group (17-23), irrespective of their gender,” he added. The successful candidates will go to the academy to train to be Formula1 drivers.
