Classic vehicles are slowly increasing in Rwanda and a new show to celebrate them in the country is coming to life. Dubbed Kigali Auto Show, the exhibition is slated for Saturday August 12, at Gahanga Cricket Stadium in Kicukiro, Kigali. Kethia Mutesi Kayonga, the brains behind the show, told The New Times that the main inspiration behind Kigali Auto Car show is to give car-lovers in Rwanda a platform to meet again and celebrate the existence of their luxury and vintage cars. She said that the idea of organising this kind of event came after realising that most of the vintage cars are kept in home garages from where they are admired mainly by just their owners. “We saw similar car shows happening and we realised it is a good idea to bring it back. We hope that people will enjoy it. We are also engaging different car owners to bring their cars for the show,” Kayonga said, adding that different celebrities and musicians were also invited to make the show more entertaining than just a car exhibition. Kayonga further noted that they are expecting 100 participants to showcase at the event and 80 out of them have already registered and confirmed their attendance. She also noted that the event will also feature other fun activities including one on one car racing, drifts of both bikes and cars, as well as performances of local DJs. “We will also reward three people. One with a brand new car, the most vintage and old car, and a fast one. This will all be done at the show,” she said, calling more people to register for the car exhibition. The Kigali Auto Car show will be hosted by Miss Rwanda 2020 Naomie Nishimwe and Ugandan socialite Sheilah Gashumba, with special performances from DJ Pyfo, Illest and DJ Tyga. Entrance fee is Rwf10,000 and free entry for the owners of vintage cars and bikes who registered.
