Kampala is ready to host the FIVB international Beach Volleyball Open tournament scheduled for September 24-29 at the Uganda Manufacturers Association Grounds (UMA).The promoter of the Kampala Open beach volleyball Eddie Okila told the Uganda media that more teams are still picking up registration forms for the event.“We are most probably going to end up with a very large number of teams for this first ever African leg of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Open,” he said.He noted, “This is very good news for volleyball in Uganda but also big news for our economy. We may see a large number of sports tourists coming into the country so I urge all businessmen to prepare to rake in some dollars.”“As we speak, we have almost all the sand we need for the event here in Kampala and now the balls and flags too have arrived. We are ready for the event,” Okila said.Okila further said, “We are really excited to receive this first consignment ahead of the Kampala Open. In the next few days we shall be receiving more equipment and I can proudly say, we are on track for a successful first ever Kampala Open.”Kampala will become the first city in East Africa to host the double gender FIVB event.Meanwhile, Rwanda’s four teams in both genders will start training on September 2. The two men’s teams include one that comprises national team captain Christophe Mukunzi and Pierre Marshal Kwizera.The other is made up of Olivier Ntagengwa and national team’s number one setter Elie Mutabazi.Women’s teams will comprise the 2011 African champions Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denise Mutatsimpundu and the duo of Emelienne Uwineza alongside Seraphine Mukantambara.Apart from Rwanda, the other countries expected to take part in the week-long event are; Brazil, USA, Italy, South Africa, China, Argentina, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland and Russia.The others include; Germany, England, India, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Mozambique, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Angola, Belarus, Algeria and hosts Uganda.
