TWERKING has been a word only in the heads of nerds, but not anymore. And this is thanks largely to 20-year-old singer Miley Cyrus, who, while performing at the MTV VMAs, went for the unthinkable. Joined by Robin Thicke on stage for a rendition of his hit single Blurred Lines, Cyrus stripped down to a tiny gold bikini and gyrated her body the way vixens do in Snoop Dogg or Jamaican dancehool music videos. Her antic has been the talk of the world, with CNN leading world media in discussing Miley Cyrus and twerking.The Oxford Dictionary has officially included the word to “twerk” on their online lexicon. It has been defined as “dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.”
