Banana prices have gone up by Rwf20. A kilogramme of bananas is now at Rwf185 across all markets in the City of Kigali from Rw165 last week. Traders attributed the increase to low supply.“There is a drop in harvests because of the long dry spell the country has been experiencing for the past two months,” Aline Uwitonze, a banana seller in Rugando market in Kimihurura, said. A medium-size cabbage costs Rwf600 in Nyarugenge Market from Rwf500 a week ago. Elsewhere, the prices for other commodities are stable compared to last week. A kilo of fresh peas costs Rwf1,500, maize flour is at Rwf670, while millet flour goes for Rwf1,200 a kilogramme. A bar of laundry soap is at Rwf600, a litre of cooking oil Rwf1,500 and passion fruits cost between Rwf1,300 and Rwf1,400 a kilogramme. Onions and tomatoes go for Rwf700 per kilo each compared to Rwf500 last week, while a kilogramme of carrots and egg plants costs Rwf400 each. Fresh fish goes for Rwf2,700 a kilo and milk costs Rwf400 a litre.
