National champion Robert Kajuga failed to completely produce the expected effect as he failed to finish the 10,000m at the 2013 IAAF World Athletics Championships yesterday in Moscow, Russia. The Rwandan athlete hanged near the front for sometime but with a few laps to the end of the race, he fell down to end Rwanda’s hopes of staging an impressive show in the championship. The disappointment never stopped Mo Farah from winning gold in a time of 27min 21sec. Briton Farah, who stole the hearts of the British public with his double distance success over 10,000m and 5,000m at London 2012, sprinted home from Ibrahim Jeilan. Ethiopian Jeilan, who beat Farah to gold in Daegu in South Korea in 2011, looked to chase him down - but Farahs rapid pace down the final stretch saw him triumph. Kenyas Paul Kipngetich Tanui was also involved in the sprint and took bronze. Farah won the 5,000m gold at the 2011 championships to go with his 10,000m silver. That left the world 10,000m gold the only one of the four top distance titles - including the Olympics - he had not previously won. Rwandas silverware hopes lie on Jean Pierre Mvuyekure who will compete in the mens full marathon next week.
