Solidarity Academy eye regional schools girls’ football title

NYARUGENGE-BASED Solidarity Academy secondary school are targeting to win the girls’ football title in this year’s East African post primary (FEASSA) games scheduled for August 20-30 in Lira, Northern Uganda.Solidarity Academy will be marking their third consecutive appearance in these games. The school finished third in their maiden appearance debut in 2011 and second last year which is why they don’t want to slide back but go one step better and clinch this year’s title.The local schools’ championship giants’, who won the girls’ football title two months ago for the third consecutive time, will use experience from two previous editions to challenge for the title for the first time, according to the school’s head teacher, Alex Murindwa.“We learnt a lot from the two previous editions and we will travel to Lira (Uganda) targeting the title that we were denied by Uganda’s Kawempe Muslims last year in Bujumbura on penalties,” Murindwa told this paper.He added, “Our two previous performances give us optimism that we can go there and win the title; we finished third in 2011 and second last year, so it wouldn’t be surprising if we win this year’s competition.” 2012 finalists Solidarity Academy were beaten 4-3 on penalties by Uganda’s Kawempe Muslims following a 1-all draw.This year’s Rwandan delegation to FEASSA games in Lira, Northern Uganda will be made up of 23 teams that will compete in nine different sports namely football, basketball, volleyball, handball, netball, rugby, athletics, tennis and table tennis.
