Would you relocate to another country for love? (Why move when love can find me here?)

Living quite close to a bar, I can’t help but eavesdrop on some ridiculous conversations. But even in all my days of listening to drunkards, never will I understand the idea of starting a new life in another country for love. I have to be real brutal on this one because this is in fact sheer un-seriousness. I’m a hopeless romantic, but there are some things even I can’t attempt. Now, I get the married couples who do this but make no mistake about it, if my finger is naked, with no shiny object blinding anyone’s eyes, best believe I’m staying put! I’m sure love is ballistic but if it is that great then it can surely adjust to sticking around. I have stated many times that I am not the long distance relationship type, so I guess for me, if the hypothetical ‘love-of-my-life’ wanted to move to India, I would give him a juicy bisou and tell him to look for a decent Indian woman to marry while he’s at it (that’s if they’ve changed their inter-racial marriage ideology)!It’s cute that a guy would ask me to join him in another country but it won’t be that cute when I jump at the opportunity, pack my bags and follow him only for things to go south when I get there. So maybe life is all about taking risks, but if you are going to take a risk, at least take a sensible one! All this follow-your-heart twaddle makes me want to fall asleep for a hundred years. I mean, follow your heart to a new job, car, house, business idea or whatever else is out there. Love? Follow it but once you get to the border, run back as fast as you can! I know I sound like a pessimist, but I would rather call myself a realist. I hate dealing with the ‘what could have been’ scenario but with this, I will gladly face it. There is family and friends to think about – if I moved to Asia, honestly, how many friends am I going to make? Not to mention work and everything I have right where I am. As a couple that is only dating, it is simply ridiculous to make such a drastic move. If it is true love, it will keep going and will eventually find a way back, but if it doesn’t then it wasn’t meant to be and not moving would have saved me a lot of trouble!blogs.ajc.com states that ‘relocating for love is quite a stretch and there would have to be some permanent reasons for that’. I totally agree, show me the ring, and I will follow your behind to Cambodia!
