THE Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (Inatek) arrived in Kampala, yesterday, ahead of the NSSF-KAVC international volleyball tournament due this weekend. The Ngoma-based national volleyball league club is seeking to win the title on their maiden appearance, according to head coach Dominic Ntawanga Sesonga. He said yesterday, “We are going in this tournament as a Rwandan team and we want to win it for ourselves and nation.”Inatek boasts several top capped players, including national team skipper and right attacker Christophe Mukunzi, centres Pierre Marshal Kwizera and Vincent Dusabimana Gasongo, libero Bosco Mutabazi and setter Elve Kagimbura.Besides Inatek, Kigali Volleyball club (men only) will also take part in the annual tournament while Rwanda Revenue Authority will feature in the women’s category. The tournament attracted Kenyan and Burundian teams as well.Meanwhile, Sport-S is rocked in players’ issues as the competition regulations requires local participating clubs to feature players registered in the Uganda Volleyball Federation League or who have played in the national schools competition.According to organizers, the rule will leave out men’s defending champions Sport-S who secured services of Rwandan international Lawrence Yakan, who plies his trade in Algeria, as well as Kenyan national team captain Ibrahim Odwor and his Kenyan Prisons teammate Evans Bella.KAVC president Mofaht Masaba told the local media that this tournament is not about getting players from outside of the country.“This tournament is not about getting players from Algeria or elsewhere. We need to develop our own game by giving local players a chance to play against strong opponents,” he said. But he noted that foreign players are not completely ruled out. “Teams shall be permitted to use only two foreigners that were registered at the beginning of the season. And only one can take the court at any given time,” Masaba added. The annual showpiece will be staged at three venues, namely; Lugogo, MUBS and Namboole. Inatek team: Richard Muhirwa, Christophe Mukunzi, Olivier Ntagengwa, Marco Rukebesha, Pierre Marshal Kwizera, Vincent Dusabimana, Bievenu Biyenzi, William Mudahemuka, Diegone Mandela Gahire, Elve Kagimbula, Christian Nshingiro and Bosco Mutabazi.
