Nyiransabimana clocked 15:59:40 to finish sixteenth behind Ethiopian duo of Tirunesh Dibaba, Melkamu Meselech and Kenya’s Priscah Cherono who won the 5000 metres. Nyiransabimana’s time was short of the 15:24.00 in 5.000m needed to qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games set for August 8-24 in China. The 19-year-old, who is benefiting from the International Olympic Solidarity Fund, has faced hardships in trying to beat the minimum since late last month. She now has one more chance to try her luck at this Friday’s European grand prix meeting Gaz de Paris Saint-Denis efore the final deadline for Games qualification due on July 23.
