Planning better for the holidays

When the holidays come around, students tend to exaggerate the plans they have when talking with their peers. Besides sleeping for extra-hours, many talk about watching the latest TV shows and series, partying, hanging out with friends, as well as checking out the Trade Expo at Gikondo. And that’s how it has been for some quiet long time.Recently to my surprise, after we finished our exams, I was moving around the school and came across a group of boys and girls who were seriously chatting about their holiday plans. I was amazed by some of the plans I managed to eavesdrop on. Plans like, taking computer lessons, attending different entrepreneurship and career guidance trainings, spending some time at the Kigali Public Library, reading new educative and interesting books and novels among others.Eventually that proved to me that some students have now realised that it is important to make more constructive plans that can contribute more to their personal development and also national development. The good spirit I got from that group inspired me to move along and get some views from other students on how they planned to spend their time. I do believe that it is wise to engage in doing something new and productive every holiday. Although I understand that one has to get enough rest from the school demands, sleeping or passing time should not be the dominant thing one does during this time. Take a holiday as me-time to focus, realise and come up with something new and educative that you can engage in and master during that free time.Steve Jobs once said that, “your learning experience never ends till you die. Many people simply go through life without noticing any of the vital lessons that life generously presents. Each opportunity to learn is specific to you and in order to discover the true meaning and relevance in life, then you have to learn from each and every one of them.”Dear fellow students remember learning never ends; spend every holiday you get in a productive way. Utilise each and every opportunity you get and master new skills and knowledge. It might be taking computer lessons, reading a new book, attending a conference or training or acquiring new skills.
