The main objectives of this project involving provision of school canteens, is to improve enrolment rates, encourage attendance and to improve concentration in class.Burundi Second Vice President, Gervais Rufyikiri, last week officiated at a workshop to raise awareness on the government’s ‘School for All’ programme.The programme aims to provide every Burundian child with basic education, and places education at the heart of the country’s national development strategy.It is a centerpiece of Vision Burundi 2025 first launched in 2005.This workshop was aimed at formulating concrete proposals on how the government can improve and sustain the school feeding programme which creates a strong link between agricultural production, health, nutrition and education.During the workshop, government representatives and partners of Burundi addressed important issues that will support the program and agree on future actions.They discussed themes which also gave an opportunity for Burundi representatives to learn the experiences of other countries in terms of school feeding.Experiences were drawn from African countries such as Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and Ivory Coast.The main objectives of this project involving provision of school canteens, is to improve enrolment rates, encourage attendance and to improve concentration in class.The project also allows parents to engage in other activities rather than spend hours looking for and preparing food for their children who are at school.‘Vision Burundi 2025’ is to build a competitive and diversified economy. Notably, by modernizing agricultural production in rural areas, developing the services industry and promotion of urbanization.
