Second live show cheers up Muhanga

Residents of Muhanga town were the latest to enjoy a wonderful live performance from the contestants of the Primus Guma Guma Superstar music competition on Saturday evening, as the show takes live music upcountry for the first time.The show which started at 3:30pm at Petit Seminaire-Kabgayi, saw the 11 contestants once again battle for the top spot as the competition gains momentum. The live show kicked off with the judges once again taking their place to assess the performances of the 11 contestants ahead of the elimination phase. Two more live shows in Musanze and Rubavu are expected over the next two weeks.Rapper Fireman kicked off the live act with the support of traditional music dancers.The Tuff Gang man performed ‘Ca inkoni izamba’ and ‘Mama Rwanda’ with the support of his local fans who sung along. Clad in black suit covered with a traditional Rwandan shawl, Fireman set the momentum.Second on the stage was Kamichi, who also like Fireman, brought dancers this time around, having performed without them in the first live show, which took place in Kigali.Kamichi performed his latest ‘Ako kantu and ‘Aho Ruzingiye’ which was his major breakthrough hit.The ‘Akanigi’ singer, who is popular in Muhanga, was however reportedly upset by Riderman’s fans known as ‘Ibisumizi’ who provoked him on stage, prompting him to lose his cool after leaving the stage.Rapper Danny Nanone was next on stage, putting up a lively performance of his singles ‘Igikwiye’ and‘Ikirori’. Danny Nanone is one of the contestants, who have proved their worth throughout this contest, even though he might not be a top contender.Dream Boys, who are giving the Primus Guma Guma title a shot for the third time, started off their performance with ‘Data ninde’, following it with ‘Mumutashye’.Clad in blue jeans, white shirts, bow ties and boots, the duo know they stand a chance this time around. One thing that makes them stand out is their ‘clean music’, having focussed on singing about real societal issues rather than just love.At around 4:42pm Bull Dogg stepped on the stage, belting out ‘Kazaroho’ and ‘Icyuki’. The other member of Tuff Gang continues to be philosophical, urging music lovers to use their wisdom and not be misled by fame in their judgement.The rapper maintains that hip hop is the real music and it should be given chance in this year’s contest. The previous two competitions were won by RnB/Afrobeat singers.Next on stage was RnB new-kid-on-the-block Christopher, who performed ‘Byanze’ and his mellow single ‘Uwo ninde’.Christopher was followed by the ever patriotic Eric Senderi who sung ‘Twaribohoye’ and ‘Icyomoro’. As expected, Senderi had something new up his sleeve.The ‘Jalousie’ singer and his dancers were donning tarpaulin costumes and caps sewn out of blue Primus banners.At around 5pm, it was time for Riderman to rock the stage, despite battling sickness. Before his performance, Riderman told his joyous fans that he is sick, but he had been informed that failure to show up would lead to disqualification.He then went ahead to perform the crowd movers ‘Bombori bombori’ and‘Igitangaza’. Riderman and his back-up crew were donning vests similar to those worn by motor cyclists, complete with red helmets on which they balanced Primus bottles.Riderman was followed by Mico who sung ‘Nakwimariyemo’ and ‘Umutaka’. Knowless performed second last, singing ‘I will follow you’ and ‘Sinzakwibagirwa’. She was once again flanked by smart dancers donning unique costumes.To crown the evening’s performance was Urban Boys who did their crowd favourite ‘Wampoye iki’ and ‘Bibaye’.The show again ended on time. Just before 6pm, the judges consisting of Canada-based Rwandan musician Mighty Popo Murigande, Aaron Niyitunga and Aimable Twahirwa submitted their day’s verdict to the audit firm.This coming weekend the contestants will perform in Musanze before heading the west in Rubavu on July 20The winner will take home an ultimate prize of Rwf24m given out in different instalments and a trophy among other things.
