Final: Saturday AS Kigali vs AS Muhanga 3pmLocal football governing body, Ferwafa has cancelled this year’s Peace Cup against Malaria 3rd place play-off match but the final will go ahead on Saturday Amahoro stadium as planned. The decision was taken after learning that this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup finalists, APR, who were scheduled to contest the third place against second division side Bugesera FC, would not return to the country from Sunday until Monday.Initially, both APR and Rayon Sports were supposed to return to Rwanda on Thursday (yesterday) and Friday, respectively, but their flight schedules were hampered by the protests in Egypt.Ferwafa’s Public Relations’ Officer, Olivier Niyongabo, explained the decision: “No way were we going to push back the final for the second time as it would affect the national team’s preparations for CHAN qualifier first-leg clash against Ethiopia (slated for July 14 in Addis Ababa).” “The two teams (APR and Bugesera) have agreed to share the third and fourth positions’ prize money equally and we (Ferwafa) support that, however, the final match between AS Kigali and Muhanga will go ahead as scheduled,” he told to Times Sport yesterday. The third place play-off winner would pocket Rwf5 million, while the loser would walk away with Rwf3 million but after the agreement, each team will now take Rwf4 million. The winner of the competition will bag Rwf10 million; the first runner-up walk away with Rwf7 milliion.
