Rwanda moves up one spot in Fifa rankings

Rwanda has jumped one spot up from 135 to 134 in this month’s Fifa/Coca Cola world rankings released on Thursday in Lausanne, Switzerland.Ethiopia, who hosts Rwanda on July 14 in a first-leg of the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier, moved eleven positions up to 95th from 106th and is ranked 25th in Africa. Rwanda is 38 in CAF rankings.In the Cecafa region, Uganda leads the standings after moving up 13 positions to be ranked 80th from last month’s 93rd and 19th from 24th in Africa following their 2-1 win over Angola last month.Burundi is ranked 120th in the world and 34th in Africa, Tanzania 121st and 35th, Kenya 123rd and 36th, while Djibouti is the 203rd in the world and bottom at 54th position in Africa.The top ranked team in Africa remains Ivory Coast and is ranked 13th the in the world, the same position they held last month.Nigeria dropped one place to fifth in Africa and four spots to 35 in the world rankings; Ghana remains 2nd on the continent but dropped three places to 24th in Fifa rankings; Mali is third in Africa but dropped five places in the world to 28.Algeria moved one position up in Africa to 5th and 34th in the world following their 1-0 win over Amavubi stars at Amahoro National Stadium on June 17. Meanwhile, five-time world champions Brazil leapt back into the top 10 of the FIFA rankings after winning the Confederations Cup last month.Brazil, who had plummeted to a record low 22nd and spent one year outside the top 10, jumped to ninth after winning all five of their matches at the tournament which they hosted.Reigning world champions Spain stay top, despite losing 3-0 to Brazil in the Confederations Cup final, while Germany remain second and Colombia climbed to third.
