Liberation Day, a dedication to all the citizens of Rwanda

Editor, This is a commendable move for the government with the banner of “good governance”. Every citizen, from deep in the countryside to uptown, should feel being part of the commemoration. Freedom is thought and fought for, and this in one way or the other was impacted not only by the brave men and women who took up arms to fight injustice and discrimination, but also the whole population. We should dedicate this commemoration to all the fallen freedom fighters, the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, as well as all the freedom-loving citizens. The day is also a call to remind people that no one should be persecuted or killed in the name of religion and ethnicity. July 4 is a day to reflect upon the sacrifices and heroism of the bush war when RPF took up arms to liberate the country. It’s also a day to look at the dark past that engulfed our country so that we make allegiance to the determined brightest future we want to take the country to. We do this by recognising the efforts of the Government of Unity and the resilience of the nation. Development, general welfare of the citizens of Rwanda, unity in diversity, struggle for peace and dignity, mutual understanding for prosperity, need for resilience and a constructive mindset should be at the forefront of every individual if we really want the self-reliant mantra to become a reality. The struggle towards a better Rwanda doesn’t end at the time RPF stopped the Genocide; it’s a continuous battle that we have to participate in until the country attains full security, zero corruption to name a few.
