WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — Handicap International, in conjunction with Pro-Femmes Twese Hamwe has donated 30 goats to orphans in Bweyeye sector in Rusizi district. The goats were handed over on Monday at Bweyeye sector headquarters. The beneficiaries are mainly orphans infected with HIV/Aids whose parents also died of Aids in the area. Each child received a goat aimed at improving their living standards. Handing over the animals, Handicap’s officials urged the beneficiaries’ guardians to look after the goats well in order to get enough production from them. “It’s very crucial for Handicap as an NGO to have donated such goats to several HIV/Aids orphans in this area. Helping HIV/Aids patients is among our first priorities but we also encourage the guardians of those who have got goats to look after them well because that’s when you shall get enough output from them,” one official said. Gilbert Rukazambuga, the Sector Executive Secretary, hailed Handicap for their contribution and urged them to extend their support programmes to other vulnerable people countrywide. “I am very happy to see some of the orphans infected with HIV/Aids getting a donation of goats from Handicap International. I’m optimistic that this would improve their social welfare. I also encourage Handicap to extend its activities in all sectors across the country if possible,” Rukazambuga urged. Currently Handicap operates in nine sectors across Rusizi. According to officials they intend to donate goats to other HIV/Aids orphans in their areas of work. Ends
