Is it an event that we just don’t need?

Before Brazil kicks off the World-Cup next year, it will have to convince doubters that it can honour its pledge first by staging a successful Confederation Cup tournament starting this week-end, as all World-eyes will be focused on Rio de Janeiro. In a tournament that is dubbed worthless by some most professional players! Given its timing after hectic season with their respective clubs, eight teams will battle in the 15-day dress rehearsal competition for the 2014 World-Cup. There is so much in this tournament, if one is to look at the big names like Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Uruguay perhaps a lot lies ahead as the tournament looks to be exciting. First of all, it shows Fifa’s football calendar is packed to the extent that soccer fanatics have started questioning whether to regard it as a tournament they just don’t need: So they say, but I think, if Fifa can only initiate plan B, C to make the tournament so attractive, the rest will all be. Nigerian’s flight schedules might be the worst for any African team, since they need to qualify for the African-Cup, World-Cup at the same time play the Confederation Cup. Nonetheless, it’s good for preparations. In the first play-offs, they have to face Oceania’s Tihiti, then Uruguay and World champs Spain in group B.For the host Brazil: They will be put to test as far as the preparation of hosting the world cup next year is concerned. They are worried of the sport and team. The tournament is more important to them especially for players like Neymar, Oscar and the other young talents coming through. It is tricky for the 21-year-old Neymar, as pressure mounts to prove the world that they still have the talent and perhaps they need the trophy so badly.On the other side, the World Cup has many challenges as seen in South Africa 2010. How far will they go with finishing the infrastructure on time. That is yet to been seen. Infrastructure like transportation, roads, airports, crowd control and tickets sells are still way behind schedule and its a big concern for Fifa.If countries like South Africa can make it, will be a similar success in developing cities like Rio de Janeiro given that such cities still have a lot to do, big events can help Brazil to benefit not just in tourism but also in business.
